Eat a healthy breakfast

Today while sitting in a tree stand for six hours while hunting, I thought about the fact that I did not eat a decent breakfast.  There are so many benefits to eating a healthy meal first thing in the morning.  One benefit is that proper morning nutrition provides one's body with strength and the ability to get through a long day.  Another benefit is that it improves concentration to help one perform better at their job or in school.  Finally, eating a healthy breakfast helps people control their weight.  It keeps us from aimlessly snacking on junk food.  My advice is to start the day off right and eat something healthy!

Cold Weather Exercise

Spending time at camp made me think about dressing properly when exercising in cold weather.  It is best to dress in layers.  One thing I learned was that if I dressed too warmly, it was a big mistake. Physical activity causes a large amount of heat to generate, therefore we may feel like the temperature is higher than it actually is.  It is important to drink water before and after to reduce risk of injury.  We are still sweating so it is important to stay hydrated.  Lastly, change clothes completely after your workout.  It is not a good idea to stay in the cold and damp clothes post workout.

Outdoor Exercise

As I pack to head to camp for the weekend, I think about the outdoors and all it has to offer in terms of exercise opportunities.  I know a lot of hunters will be in the woods hunting on Monday.  It would be a great idea to make some time for physical activity.  I look forward to hiking in the woods and enjoying the fresh air.  This is a great activity for the heart and lungs.   Hiking can improve muscular fitness as the terrain can have many hills.  Overall, hiking like any aerobic exercise lowers the risk for strokes and heart attacks.

Thanksgiving Feast

I read a quote today on Twitter that made me chuckle.  The quote was, "thighs before pies!"  Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because it does not get any better than family, food and football!  The one thing we should all do prior to enjoying the day is spend some time exercising.  The exercise can simply be a short walk or it can be an intense round of lifting weights.  It does not matter what exercise we choose but we need to do some form of physical activity.  A 20 minute work out that gets your heart rate up can go a long way to keep yourself fit and trim!  Happy Thanksgiving to all!
